My son loves bread and eats it before it’s even cooked. Straight out of the bread machine! (I worry about that boy…) Although he is the extreme enthusiast – we are a bread-loving family!
I love a hot, fluffy loaf of white bread straight out of the bread maker. Not only does it double as the world’s best air freshener, but it’s also cheaper than any bread you buy in the supermarket. Between sandwiches and toast, my family was going through three loaves of bread in a week! The cost of a loaf of plain ol’ bland white bread is about $2.60. That’s $405 a year in bread alone. Crazy. So I said, “Heck. How hard could it be to make it?” Ya’ll. It. Is. So. Easy. It’s easy, and delicious and (my personal favorite part) IT’S CHEAP!!
This 2lb loaf of heaven will only set you back $0.54. That’s right: $0.045 per slice.
This ONE recipe saved my family $321.36 a YEAR. Boom, Baby!
Here’s the ingredients in the order you should put them in your 2lb bread machine. (Consult your specific bread machine manual for any deviations)
1 Cup Warm Water (think baby bath water)
3 teaspoons yeast
3 Tablespoons Granulated Sugar
3 Cups Bread Flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 Cup of vegetable oil (I’ve also used canola)
I put the machine settings on “light crust” and “white bread” and three hours later, my whole house smells like a bakery and everyone is chomping at the bit for melt-in-your-mouth bread.
You can also add in dried rosemary or Italian seasoning for variety.
